Gardenias are great for corsages and to float in a vessel of water. There are two primary ways to purchase gardenias: select and floating. Selects have a backing made from 4 real gardenia leaves. With just some florists tape and a pin, it is a ready to go corsage! They come in a box of 3 blooms and are available in antique white only. Gardenias do not have a long stem, the short stem is only a few inches long, so if you plan to use them in arrangements, you will need to use florist wire as an artificial stem. You simply insert the wire through the middle of the stem, fold it over like a hairpin, and wrap the wire with florist tape. You can purchase the wire, tape and pin here. For floating in a bowl, the leaf back is made of silk to aid in floating. These are also referred to as semi gardenias in the trade. I know that you are thinking, "fake silk leaves?!" but it is almost completely hidden by the flower and is not at all unattractive. They come in boxes of 3 blooms and are available in antique white only. They are roughly the size of an english muffin so bear that in mind as you try to figure out how many you can float in your container. Available year round
